First Communion Classes

Nov 29th, 2007 by admin | 0

At Pilgrim Lutheran we offer First Communion Classes to 4th grade students (and students in higher grades who haven’t completed the classes as of yet) with the intent to help them prepare to receive the Lord’s Supper.

The classes will seek to accomplish three vital goals:

  • Make sure these children believe in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation
  • Understand what Lutheran Christians believe about this sacrament
  • Prepare them to join with us in communing to receive all the blessings God gives us in and through Holy Communion.

First Communion Class graphicDue to some changes in our Youth Instruction classes our First Communion Classes will now be offered in the Fall as opposed to the Spring of the year. Since we just completed classes in October we don’t look to start up again until Fall 2008—unless the need presents itself. This year we offered the classes during our Sunday School hour and we plan to do so again next Fall.

The four class sessions would cover the following basics:

  • BGTF – how we’re saved
  • WDTM – what we believe about the sacrament
  • PP/BP – how to prepare to receive Holy Communion
  • RUR – practical overview on how we commune here at Pilgrim

Finally, you might wish to look at the attached Frequently Asked Questions sheet for further details. If you have any questions about these classes please contact us at the church office (office@pilgrimbethesda.org or 301-229-2800). We look forward in working with you and your child as they continue their walk of faith.
