Missions

Nov 29th, 2007 by admin | 0

In an effort to follow the words of Jesus and to go into all the world and share the gospel with all peoples, Pilgrim Lutheran gives Missions important priority.

  • In the last few years, Pilgrim Lutheran has supported projects in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Madagascar, Afghanistan, India, The Gambia, and Papau New Guinea.
  • Pennies were gathered for the Bethesda Home (for the mentally disabled) in Wisconsin.
  • Monies were collected to provide education scholarships for American Indian Leaders and to continue to fund a Hispanic Radio Ministry.
  • One member of the congregation was sent to China on a mission trip.
  • School supplies were sent to the Navajos.
  • Food supplies were sent to Martha’s Table, Washington, D.C.
  • Over $900 was sent to Lutheran World Relief.
  • An Alpha Outreach Program was started at Pilgrim to reach the unchurched in the community.
  • We were able to fill 54 boxes for the Operation Christmas Child project in October and November 2007.
  • We are collecting items for the Montgomery County Mental Health Association Operation Santa Claus helps bring holiday cheer to those struggling with mental illness by providing useful personal items to those persons at the holidays.

We continue to seek to find ways to “make disciples of all nations” through our support of missions here and around the world.

You can help

Like the hymn says, “Let none hear you idly saying, ‘There is nothing I can do,’ While the multitudes are dying And the master calls for you…” (from stanza 4 of “Hark the voice of Jesus calling”)

You can help by:

  • Praying for mission work and missionaries doing that work
  • Supporting mission work through your offerings
  • Encouraging others to help support missions
  • Becoming a missionary

Ask God to guide you in how you can get involved in the exciting work of missions—not just “over there,” but right around where you live today!
