Beatitudes of Promise to be Midweek Lenten Theme

Feb 13th, 2008 by admin | 0

With Lent’s return on Wednesday, February 6th, will come the return of our Midweek Lenten services. Pilgrim Lutheran will offer midweek services on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:30 PM beginning February 6th and running through March 12th.

Each midweek service will run no longer than 45 minutes. Each service in this special Lenten series focuses on one of Jesus’ renowned Beatitudes, applying them to our Lenten journey, today.

We’ll continue our popular practice of having the homily done in dialog form featuring two different Pilgrim’s each week. One will serve “Chris” (short for “Christian”) and one who is called “Mac.” Mac is short for the Greek word, “macarios,” meaning “blessed.”

In addition, Pastor Jim Kreft will provide a short introductory homily on the topic that will take the form of a children’s message.

Our topics will be as follows:

  • February 6th, Ash Wednesday—The Promise of Heaven—”Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:3.
  • February 13th—The Promise of Comfort—”Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” Matthew 5:4.
  • February 20th—The Promise of an Inheritance—”Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” Matthew 5:5.
  • February 27th—The Promise of Righteousness—”Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” Matthew 5:6.
  • March 5th—The Promise of Mercy—”Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” Matthew 5:7.
  • March 6th—The Promise of Seeing God—”Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” Matthew 5:8.

We encourage you to join us often for these Midweek Lenten services as we seek to better understand Jesus’ Beatitudes and prepare ourselves this Lenten season.
